Air fryer onion rings are a delicious and healthier alternative to traditional deep-fried ones. Here’s a simple recipe you can try
Ingredients:
- 2 large onions, cut into rings
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon paprika (optional)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko for extra crunch)
- Cooking spray or olive oil spray
Instructions:
- Prepare the onions:
- Peel the onions and cut them into rings about 1/2 inch thick. Separate the rings and set aside.
- Prepare the coating stations:
- In a shallow bowl or plate, mix the flour, paprika (if using), garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
- In another bowl, beat the eggs.
- Coat the onion rings:
- Dip each onion ring into the flour mixture, making sure to coat it evenly. Shake off any excess flour.
- Next, dip the floured onion ring into the beaten eggs, allowing any excess to drip off.
- Finally, coat the onion ring in the breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere. Place the coated onion rings on a plate or tray.
- Air frying:
- Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 5 minutes.
- Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray or olive oil spray.
- Arrange the coated onion rings in a single layer in the air fryer basket, making sure they are not overlapping.
- Cooking:
- Air fry the onion rings in batches, if necessary, for about 8-10 minutes, flipping them halfway through cooking.
- They should be golden brown and crispy when done. Cooking time may vary depending on your air fryer model, so keep an eye on them.
- Serve:
- Once done, remove the onion rings from the air fryer and serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ketchup, ranch dressing, or aioli.
